ANTK named after A.N.Tupolev
OJSC "ANTK named after Tupolev" designs, manufactures and tests aircraft, creates and introduces new technologies for their production, provides operation and after-sale service. The programs of passenger aircraft family Tu - 204, Tu - 334, Tu - 324 and transport aircraft Tu - 330 are of high priority. The development of new and modernization of operated civil and combat defense aircraft systems are under way, the company carries out research on second generation supersonic passenger aircraft, use of cryogenic fuel, etc.
The enterprise, which was founded by the academician A.N.Tupolev designed more than 300 aircraft of almost of all types and purposes (including aerospace aircraft, snowplane, as well as small vessels). 35 projects were put into series production and were manufactured in large batches. Aircraft Tu - 134, Tu - 154, Tu - 204, Tu - 95, Tu - 22M, Tu - 160, Tu - 243 are being operated. At the Moscow air show MAKS-99 ANTK named after Tupolev has common exposition with its partners cooperating in aircraft production under the name "Tupolev":
OJSC "Aviastar" (Ulyanovsk) - series production of aircraft Tu - 204-100, Tu - 204-120 and Tu - 234;
Kazan aircraft-production association named after S.P.Gorbunov - manufacture of passenger aircraft Tu-214 and bombers Tu - 160 and Tu - 22M3;
Plant "Taganrog aviation " - manufacture of the Tu-334 family of passenger aircraft, combat ones Tu - 95MS and Tu - 142;
Kiev State aircraft plant "Aviant" which is the head factory on production of the Tu-334-100 new passenger aircraft.
At the MAKS-99 Air Show the "Tupolev" joint static exposition is presented by :
medium-haul passenger airliner Tu - 204-120;
medium-haul passenger airliner Tu - 214;
remotely-piloted vehicle Tu - 300;
air-reconnaissance system "Reis-D";
amphibian snowplane АS-2;
flying testbed Tu - 144;
bomber Tu - 22M3.
The participation of five well-known enterprises at the international show under the common name "Tupolev" is a step in the direction of efforts consolidation of all aircraft manufacturers under the world known Russian trademark to penetrate into the market of medium-haul and short-haul passenger aircraft. Such consolidation is aimed at the development of common strategy of marketing and sale of Tu - 204, Tu - 214 and Tu - 334.
Understanding the importance of forming common system of operation maintenance of the "Tupolev" aircraft , the enterprises plan to pay more attention at MAKS-99 to the work with airlines, leasing companies and other potential customers. As a result, common ways of marketing policy coordination of these enterprises should be found. On June 30, 1999 a Decree of the Russian Federation government No 720 on the integration of OJSC "ANTK named after A.N.Tupolev" and OJSC "Aviastar" and the formation of OJSC "A.N.Tupolev" on their base was issued.
OJSC "Tupolev" will receive enterprises fixed assets as a contribution to its authorized capital, as well as property rights to the developments of Tupolev company enterprises. The state will have a control block of shares (50 % plus one share) of OJSC Tupolev. In addition, OJSC "Tupolev will be included in the list of joint-stock companies manufacturing strategic products for national security. It means that the state block of shares is not subject to sale. According to the estimates , the process of two enterprises integration is expected to be over by the end of the year.
The capacities of the Ulyanovsk aircraft plant "Aviastar" are the largest in Europe. Nevertheless, the enterprise situation remains rather hard. The integration of two enterprises allows to check up whether it is profitable to form large associations in the Russian aircraft industry. Tupolev ANTK and KAPO named after S.P.Gorbunov also have many - year partner relations and the experience of joint program development. These programs include manufacture and operation maintenance of sofisticated attack aircraft systems, one of which is famous strategic missile-carrier Tu - 160.
Tu-160
Today both enterprises jointly work on the Tu - 214 program. The Tu-214 medium-haul passenger airliner is now undergoing certification trials with maximum take-off weight of 110 tons. It is expected to take up its niche on the market.
At present the Tu-334 short-haul passenger aircraft has made eight test flights that resulted in confirmation of almost all announced performances (altitude, speed and acceleration). The head manufacturer of the Tu - 334-100 modification will be KiGAZ "Aviant" - one of the largest aircraft manufacturer of Ukraine. Aircraft plant "Taganrog aviation " (TAVIA) participates in cooperation manufacture of this and other versions of the aircraft. It is possible that in near future new partners will join the program of the Tu - 334 aircraft family.
Tu-334
The alliance of the enterprises integrated under the name of Tupolev is aimed at creation of a modern system for financing developments, production and sale of new generation aircraft.
The Group of management of commuter aircraft program Tu - 324 formed by the government of the Republic of Tatarstan also participates in the joint exposition. The series production was organized at the Kazan aircraft production association named after S.P. Gorbunov (OJSC "KAPO"). The Tatarstan budget bore the design expenses. The first aircraft flight is expected to take place in the second half of 1999, deliveries will begin in 2001. The Tu - 324 can be delivered to the customers in business and regional variants. Preliminary cost of the aircraft with foreign engines CF34-3B will make 18-20 million dollars, and with the AI-22 engines of the Ukrainian design bureau "Progress" - 14-16 million dollars.
The question of granting of a license on the Tu - 334 manufacture to Iran is now being considered. The discussion of this question between the ANTK specialists and the experts of the Iran aircraft industry is being held. The representatives of the Ukrainian aircraft plant "Aviant" that is going to start a series production of the aircraft, as well as the representatives of the "Progress" motor enterprise (Zaporozhye) that develops the aircraft engine D-436T1 are taking part in the talks. Various versions are being considered, including the license sale and joint production. On estimations, the total cost of the agreement can make about $ 1,5 billion. Tupolev ANTK goes on working on increase of service life of short-haul passenger aircraft of Tu-134 type. Now up to 650 aircraft of the Tu-134 various modifications are operated. About 600 planes are operated in CIS. The aircraft that undergo recommended overhaul on a customer request can be repaired to increase their service life up to 45000 flying hours, it corresponds to 30000 landings and 30 years of a service life (operation). On a customer request new avionics, modernized oxygen system can be installed and are already being installed on them.
The program of creation of a 200-seat local passenger aircraft Tu - 206 with engines working on liquefied natural gas and aviation kerosene is being carried out. The plane is a modified version of a 200-seat passenger aircraft Tu - 204-100, the cost of which is 22-25 million dollars. The cost of the Tu - 206 will be 5-10% above the price of the basic aircraft. The Tu-206 series production will begin at the Ulyanovsk aircraft plant (OJSC "Aviastar").
At the Russian-Kirgiz enterprise "Dastan" it is planned to manufacture agricultural Tu-54s, and then - multipurpose business two-engine 6-7-seat aircraft Tu - 34. The cost of the aircraft with import engines will make up to 1.5 million dollars, with domestic engines the aircraft costs 600 thousand dollars cheaper. According to the estimates made before 17 August , 1998, R & D program was value at 30 million dollars, including 16 million dollars on development effort, 13 million dollars - on manufacture preparation. The demand for Tu- 34 is estimated at 300-400 units and recoupment of program can be reached after manufacture of about 150-170 aircraft. The realization of work on the program at joint venture in Kirkizstan will allow to keep about 5000 jobs in Russia and in Kirgistan, including about 3500 jobs in Russia up to 2010, and will also allow to solve the job problem of the Russian-speaking population.
