India Set to Buy More Russian Military Aircraft

New Delhi, 23rd August: The Indian government is considering proposals to allocate three billion dollars in the near future for purchase and production of modern warships, submarines and planes for its Navy.

The local mass media have reported on Wednesday with reference to well-informed sources that India is planning to sign a contract with Russia for purchase of twenty-four MiG-29K carrier-based jets. The jets are to be stationed on board the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov. Negotiations on the purchase of the Russian ship have been in a final stage now.

The cost of the contract for acquisition of the MiG-29 jets has been estimated in India at 1.8 billion dollars.

India has also ordered twelve Ka-31 radar reconnaissance helicopters to be built in Russia which are expected to be provided to the Indian Navy next year, the same source said.
