The Royal Malaysian Air Force has agreed to purchase ten Mil-17
helicopters from Russia to replace its Sikorsky S-61s, while the competition
to sell new helicopters to the Malaysian army has been revived, with the
Indonesian Aerospace (ex-IPTN) NBO-105 competing with models offered by
Eurocopter and MD Helicopters. A senior official said the Malaysian navy
expected to receive one of the six Super Lynx helicopters later this year,
with the rest to follow by 2003. (Malaysia Business Times, Jan. 16)
