An-70 Ready for Show?
Repairs on the crashed prototype of the Russian-Ukrainian An-70 cargo plane will
be completed in time for it to be displayed at France`s Le Bourget air show in
June, the firm doing the work said Monday.
The Polyot aviation plant, based in Siberia`s Omsk region, said it expected to
complete $3 million in repair work on the An-70 by the end of May.
``We plan on work being done in May in time for Le Bourget. No doubt the plane
will be of great interest there,`` said plant spokesman Alexander Panchenko.
The An-70, the second of two prototypes of the aircraft to have been built,
crashed-landed in Omsk on Jan. 27 just moments after takeoff.
As a result of the crash and recent changes in Russia`s military leadership,
China postponed negotiations on the purchase or licensed manufacture of the
An-70 plane, Itar-Tass reported Monday.
