Agusta A109 Military ordered for Sweden

22 June 2001

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and Agusta SpA, an AgustaWestland Company, have signed a contract calling for the supply of 20 Agusta A109 military helicopters. The contract is worth more than 130 Mio and initial deliveries are scheduled for September 2002.

The A109 Military, to be designated HKP15 under the Swedish configuration, will be incorporated into the Swedish Armed Forces as a new light utility helicopter system. The new helicopter will replace three older helicopter systems.

The primary purpose of the HKP15 is to serve as a cost efficient system for tactical education and training of crews. In addition, the new helicopter will be used for other missions, including utility, ASW, SAR and MEDEVAC. The HKP15 will be operated from both permanent and field bases, with some of the helicopters equipped for ship based operations.

The selection of the Agusta helicopter by FMV follows Agusta's recent successes with the South African Armed Forces and United States Coast Guard.

More than 220 A109 Powers have been ordered world-wide since the model's introduction, spanning a broad range of operations including police, EMS, VIP/Corporate and military applications.
