Aviastar Relaunches Manufacture of Tu-204 Freighter

Construction of a Tu-204 freighter has been restarted at the Ulyanovsk Aviastar aircraft plant. Assembly of the airplane was suspended in May 2001 because of a disagreement over questions of cost between the plant`s management /the New Commonwealth team/ and the customers - the Moscow Aviastar-Tu airline.

After the arrival of a new head, Aviastar-Tu paid the basic share of the articles obtained from the suppliers. Right now work on assembly of the liner is on-going in the main part of the the airplane production facility - in the final assembly hall. Some day soon, the first of two PS-90 engines which will be installed on the Tu-204 should be brought to Aviastar. And toward the end of 2001, according to the timetable, the airplane should be relocated to the flight test complex.

If the manufacturing process is not halted, the Tu-204 freighter will be the second airplane coming out of the Aviastar jigs in 2001. As Mozaika IRA reports, the first liner, assembly of which the Ulyanovsk aircraft builders completed this summer, a Tu-204-100, too part in the MAKS-2001 international air salon in Zhukovskiy and was highly rated by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. Last year Aviastar-SP produced five liners - four Tu-204 and one An-124 ``Ruslan.``
