The 43rd is one of four training squadrons that fall under the 325th Fighter Wing at Tyndall (will have a full complement of twenty-eight F/A-22s and about an equivalent number of instructor pilots when fully staffed. Ten to fifteen students will be enrolled in the training at any one time.)
17 of the next generation stealth fighters will eventually be assigned to Nellis. In addition to the first F/A-22 delivered Tuesday, seven more will arrive between 2003-2004 and be flown by members of the Center’s 53rd Wing. The 53rd Wing’s 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron will fly the aircraft, and assist in operational testing and the development of the tactics future F/A-22 pilots will use in combat. Between 2008-2009, another nine aircraft are scheduled for delivery to Nellis’ 57th Wing and will be flown by pilots and instructors at the U.S. Air Force Weapons School. All Nellis F/A-22s will be maintained by members of the Center’s 57th Wing.
