Western European
Aerospace & Defence Industries
- The Ownership Jigsaw -
As the pace of Aerospace and Defence consolidation gathers steam, it is increasingly difficult to keep track of the multiplicity of relationships between the main players in the industry - who owns what in Europe has become a complex and confusing issue!
To unravel the conundrum, DSD has especially commissioned Tim Ripley to produce a 'who's who' ready reckoner; it provides a snap-shot of the Western European (ie European Union and NATO member countries) industry at the end of 1999. We hope that you will find it useful, as you follow the consolidation process through the coming year.
DSD USER NOTES:
1. Company titles in bold refer to core companies, below which are the subsidiaries with individual equity holdings, their base of operation and main activities.
2. Unless otherwise stated, companies are publicly listed and privately owned.
3. Companies have been grouped by the geographic location of their core elements.
4. The fragmented and disorganised nature of the European Defence industrial base makes it very difficult to group companies by products or markets.
5. The numerous "management" companies set up to administer work share arrangements on international collaborative projects, i.e. Panavia and Eurofighter GmbH which are essentially tools for government-to-government co-operation, are covered in the chart of multi-national European collaborative programmes.
