Air Foyle and Antonov have been contracted by the United Nations to operate four Antonov An124-100 aircraft to transport vehicles and equipment on behalf of the Indian and Bangladeshi peace-keeping contingents from Delhi, India, to Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The Air Foyle / Antonov operated flights come a week after they moved equipment from RAF Brize Norton to Dakar, Senegal on behalf of the UK MoD in support of the of British military forces deployed to protect the evacuation of British and European citizens from Sierra Leone.
Three An124-100 freighters flew to Delhi on Tuesday, with the fourth aircraft scheduled to arrive in the Indian capital today.
From Delhi, the four freighters will be dispatched to Freetown to transport 1,400 tonnes of vehicles and equipment for the Indian contingent of the UN peace-keeping force, followed by 1,100 tonnes of equipment for the Bangladeshi peace-keeping force.
