OSLO (AFX) - The government proposed to parliament to abandon its plan to buy 20 new fighter aircraft worth a total of 1.3 bln eur.
"After reviewing the goals and the investment plans, the government proposes that the purchase of 20 new fighter planes is not followed through", the government said in connection with its 2000 draft budget.
The government proposed instead the updating of Norway's existing F-16 fighters, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corp.
