HMS Dragon leaves Portsmouth this afternoon, Tuesday 10th March 2026, destined for the Mediterranean, with its primary role to protect Cyprus and the British airbase there, after RAF Akrotiri was hit with Iranian-made drones. There has been widespread criticism of the MoD following the delay in deploying the Portsmouth-based Type 45 destroyer. HMS Dragon was in a dry dock when the British military base in Cyprus was attacked 10 days ago. Around 200 personnel are expected to be on board, with many being called back from leave or training.
