Russia to modernize South-African Mirages

Federal company "PromExport" was selected to modernize French "Mirage F1" and "Mirage III" fighters of the South-African Air Force. OKB Vympel will make aircraft capable of using close-range AA-11 missiles. OKB Klimov will replace engines with Russian-designed RD-33 engines.
RSK-MiG will do general improvement of aerodynamics and possibly also replace radars. This was reported to the Military News Agency reporter by a highly-placed source in Russian government. According to him RSK-MiG, OKB Klimov, and OKB Vympel will be responsible for new engines, avionics, and weaponry modernization.
South-African industry will make its contribution as well. Many of South-African companies will participate in the project including "Denel Aviation, ExSIEl, Edwants Technogies and Engineering Limited, AeroZud Limited.
Experts estimated potential Mirage modernisation market worldwide at around 6 billion dollars.
