Ну а по АВУ "Тикондерога" Автор приводит следующие строки:
Wednesday
7 August 1968
We have a seaman from the crew missing today. They don’t know whether he went over the side or if he’s hiding out on board. They send out three planes and one of our destroyer escorts to search but weren’t able to turn anything up. Indications were that he got a bad letter from his girlfriend while we were in Hawaii and as a result was mentally depressed.
Glen [This is likely Glen L. Taylor of Oakland, CA, one of Richard’s fellow dental technicians.], Bowens [This is Maurice C. Bowens of Chicago, IL, another dental technician in the department.], and I also started our psychology class today. We go for 1 hour Mon., Wed., and Fri when we’re at sea. Mr. Cota is teaching our class. [This is probably Lieutenant R.A. Cota from the Medical Department.] He seems to be a good instructor so I think we should get a lot out of the class. This semester is due to run until about the middle of November.
We had another session tonight with the SNF2 program [The Dental Department is giving Stannous Fluoride treatments to the whole crew during the cruise.]. We ran through 24 Marines so that finishes up MarDet [Marine Detachment. Up until the 1990’s, US Navy ships normally had a detachment of Marines aboard. On this cruise, it appears there were 53 Marines and 2 officers aboard.]. I hope all the rest of the divisions go as smoothly as this one did.
We passed the USS Ticonderoga CVA-14 this evening early 6000 yards [~3.5 miles or ~5.5km] to starboard. She was heading for home. We are relieving her on the line so I imagine they were pretty glad to see us. [USS Ticonderoga was an Essex-class carrier, very similar to the USS Hancock. She was commissioned in May of 1944 and saw action in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Rich sees her here returning from her fourth deployment to southeast Asia where she flew over 13,000 combat sorties. She would make one more cruise to Vietnam in February of 1969 and be decommissioned in 1973 to be eventually sold for scrap in 1975.]
Опять же хроники сопровождались фотографией авианосца, которую я привел раньше.
