Limassol June 10 THE MINISTER of Commerce and- [ industry, Mr Araouzos, accompanied by the director general of the Ministry Mr. Eliades, the Soviet ambassador Mr. Ermoshin and the Soviet commercial attache Mr. Popov, today watched the first shipment of 500 tons of Cyprus spirit to Russia under a three-year trade agreement signed between the two countries.
A total of 17,500 tons of spirit will be exported to Russia by the end of 1967. It is specially distilled and will be used for the making of cognac. Stressing the importance of the deal, Mr Araouzos said it would have beneficial effects on tho island's economy In general and the vine industry in particular.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister said the agreement meant that the Russian market would absorb all present stocks of zivania as well as those in tho next three years. Indirectly this would help the disposal of old stocks of raisins and other vino products.
